Many countries have declared restrictive measures, such as lockdown, shelter in place, or stay at home orders, to slow down the spread of the coronavirus. As the novel coronavirus continues to spread, countries are putting their citizens on various forms of lockdown. India, China, France, Italy, New Zealand, Poland, and the UK have implemented the world’s largest and most restrictive mass quarantines. Some include total movement control while others have enforced restrictions based on time. Mostly, only essential businesses are allowed to remain open. Schools, universities and colleges have closed either on a nationwide or local basis. More than a third of the planet’s population is under some form of restriction. Research and case studies have shown that lockdowns are effective at reducing the spread of COVID-19.
